As Assam's towns and cities continue to grow, there is an increasing need for streets that are safe, inclusive, and resilient to climate challenges such as flooding and extreme rainfall. Engineers and planners and urban designers play a critical role in delivering this vision, yet there is a need to strengthen their capacity in integrated street design, utility planning, and junction safety. This capacity building program, in collaboration with the Assam Urban Knowledge Hub (AUKH) and Government Of Assam Housing & Urban Affairs, Directorate of Town and Country Planning aims to equip government officials with practical knowledge and tools to design and implement people-centric, climate-responsive streets that improve mobility, accessibility, and urban infrastructure resilience across the cities of Assam.

DPR preparation for Complete Streets

A 2-day capacity building workshop on DPR preparation for Complete Streets and Junction Redevelopment brought together government engineers, planners, and practitioners to strengthen technical skills in integrated street design, utility planning, junction design, and climate-responsive urban infrastructure, while fostering collaboration across departments and urban local bodies through the Assam Urban Knowledge Hub (AUKH). The agenda guided participants through the complete DPR workflow; from understanding street design DPRs, project scoping, and corridor definition, through planning and validating survey data, preparing digital base maps, chainage drawings, and road/drain sections, to street design principles and codes on Day 1; and on Day 2, land use and zoning through activity mapping, geometry correction, design of street elements, utility design, DPR drawings, and BOQ and cost estimation; equipping participants to deliver safe, inclusive, and climate-resilient streets suited to Assam's urban challenges of flooding, mixed traffic, and universal accessibility.
