Kathiwada Annex
PERCHED WITHIN THE TERRAIN, THE ANNEX IS A QUIET MEDIATOR BETWEEN RETREAT AND CONNECTION TO LIFE OF KATHIWADA.
Set against the distant mountains, the annexe offers a different way of experiencing Kathiwada. While its architectural language draws from the restrained forms and timeless simplicity of the existing estate, the annexe opens outwards, allowing views to extend beyond its immediate grounds towards the wider Kathiwada landscape.
SEQUENCE OF MOVEMENT
The planning establishes a quiet balance between private retreat and shared social spaces. The 23 rooms are organised around the courtyard, which acts not just as a buffer but also becomes a transitional space, gradually guiding movement from the private realm towards the shared spaces and outward to the wider landscape.
Unfolding Experiences
The first encounters with the annexe are quiet and understated. Simple masses and a muted material palette let the building sit comfortably within its surroundings. Movement unfolds gradually, with glimpses of the courtyard and the hills beyond before the full experience is revealed.
